Healing Is the Children’s Bread
Have you ever heard the saying, “When it rains, it pours”? That was exactly how life felt during one particular season of my motherhood.
At the time, my youngest two children were just one and three years old, and both of them had dozens of tiny warts covering their bodies—including their faces. If you’ve ever dealt with warts, you know how stubborn and persistent they can be. They often multiply unless something is done. I was deeply concerned.
On top of that, my fourteen-year-old son had recently been diagnosed with pneumonia. The doctor warned me that his lungs would remain vulnerable for several years, which was frightening news. And as if that wasn’t enough, my sixteen-year-old son had returned from a trip to Canada months earlier with a mysterious illness. He had lost a lot of weight and never seemed to get better.
The weight of worry pressed heavily on me. I still remember kneeling in prayer one Saturday, crying out to the Lord to heal my children. In that moment, I felt strongly impressed to gather my family for a healing prayer session.
The very next day after church, following the Communion Meal, my husband and I gathered all seven of our children in the dining room. One by one, my husband anointed each child with consecrated oil, laid his hands on them, and prayed for their healing.
The next morning, something extraordinary happened. Both of my little ones woke up with a scab on every single wart! Within three weeks, every wart had fallen away and never returned.
But God didn’t stop there. During that same three-week period, both of my older sons were also completely healed. The pneumonia never returned, and the mysterious illness vanished without a trace.
It was a powerful reminder of what Jesus said: healing is the children’s bread (Matthew 15:22–28; Mark 7:27). In other words, healing is a daily, life-sustaining gift freely given to God’s children.
As Psalm 103 declares:
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:1–5)
That day, God reminded me that He is still the Healer, and His promises are yes and amen for His children.
