My Only Home Birth Testimony
This is the story of my only home birth—an experience that became both deeply redemptive and a testimony of God’s goodness.
I chose a home birth after nearly twenty years of suffering under a male-dominated healthcare system that often inflicted violence and trauma on women. My journey included multiple abusive hospital births and even a sexual assault by a nearly 50-year-old male doctor during my very first gynecological exam at age seventeen. By the time I was pregnant with my eighth and last child, I knew I needed something different—something safe, dignified, and healing.
God blessed me with an amazing midwife, a wise and compassionate woman.
I went into labor and, at exactly midnight, my water broke. By six in the morning, my contractions were very strong and only two minutes apart, but I was still only dilated to three. My feet began swelling—something I had never experienced before. I was concerned, but my midwife calmly reassured me. I clung to that reassurance, because the last place I wanted to be was a hospital. The trauma from past births still lingered so heavily that, after my seventh child, I was diagnosed with PTSD from the dehumanization and abuse I endured. Plus the extreme OBGYN violence of my 7th birth experience endangered my life and my baby's life.
Hours passed as I labored intensely, praying I wouldn’t be forced into a hospital transfer. By 11:50 a.m., I was only at six centimeters. Exhausted, I asked my midwife for a few minutes alone and stepped into the warm shower. As the water poured over me, I prayed:
“Lord, You inspired me to have this home birth. I am trusting You with my life and my baby’s life.”
The very moment I said Amen, I felt the sudden urge to push. Within minutes, my beautiful 10 lb, 6 oz daughter came into the world—safe, strong, and healthy.
I praise the Lord for His loving guidance, His wisdom, and His protection. What began as a choice for safety became a holy encounter with God’s faithfulness.
