Divine Timing in Our Housing Journey

In 1992, my family moved from the East Coast to the Midwest. By God’s grace, we were able to purchase our very first home through a contract-for-deed arrangement. It was a simple post–World War II ranch—practical and sturdy, though not particularly pretty—but it was ours, and we were thankful.

After three years, we knew it was time to move into a larger home that could better accommodate our growing family. I found a historic five-bedroom house that felt like the perfect next step. At the same time, I had a young family lined up to lease-purchase our ranch. Everything seemed ready to fall into place—except for one final detail. I needed to contact the couple who held the mortgage on our ranch so they could sign the bank’s paperwork.

When I called, the husband answered—and his response stunned me. He said, “You caught me at the exact right moment.” As it turned out, his family was literally moving to Canada that very day! Their belongings were packed in a moving truck parked in the driveway, his wife and children were waiting in the car, and he was making one last sweep through the empty house before locking the door. The phone rang at the precise instant he was still available to answer.

Had I called even a few minutes later, I would have had no way to reach him. And any delay in securing his signature would have cost me the opportunity to buy the historic home I had my heart set on.

God’s timing was perfect. He arranged the moment so precisely that there could be no doubt it was His hand at work.

What an amazing reminder: the Lord delights in setting up divine appointments for His children, orchestrating details with flawless timing.
