Miraculous Protection at the Park

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the kind of perfect weather that made me feel blessed as our family gathered for a birthday celebration at a gorgeous public park. The fenced preschool playground nearby was full of little ones, and under the large pavilion, three families—including ours—enjoyed time together at the picnic tables.

Suddenly, a young couple approached me from the direction of the parking lot. The woman’s face showed deep concern. She asked if anyone had seen a small blue plastic container. It turned out they had hosted a birthday party earlier that morning under the same pavilion, and the woman’s father later realized he had lost his pill container through a hole in his pocket. The medicine inside could be deadly if a curious preschooler were to find it.

No one had seen it. She pointed to the large fields where her father had walked, explaining how far he had wandered. To me, it felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. Yet the risk was far too serious—the container had to be found.

I realized I was the only person among the three groups she had spoken with. In my heart, I believed God directed her to me because I have strong faith in a particular Scripture that allows the Holy Spirit to move in these situations:

“When they arrived at the Jordan, they began cutting down trees. But as one of them was cutting a tree, his ax head fell into the river. ‘Oh, sir!’ he cried. ‘It was a borrowed ax!’ ‘Where did it fall?’ the man of God asked. When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it into the water at that spot. Then the ax head floated to the surface. ‘Grab it,’ Elisha said. And the man reached out and grabbed it.”
—2 Kings 6:4–7 (NLT)

I have prayed countless times for God to bring missing things to the surface, and nearly every time He has answered. Quietly, I prayed that prayer again as the couple searched the fields.

Before long, the woman returned to tell me the good news: they had found the missing container—in the parking lot, surrounded by cars. I saw it myself, and it was small enough for a preschool child to open. A potential tragedy was completely averted by locating that container in time.

I don’t know this couple—perhaps they are believers too, and my prayer simply came into agreement with theirs. But this experience reminded me of some powerful truths:

  • We must always be spiritually prepared to exercise our spiritual gifts.

  • Miracles not only heal or restore—they can also prevent tragedy in subtle, everyday ways.

  • Faith is naturally supernatural, showing up in ordinary moments—like celebrating with family at the park.

God cares about every detail, and His Spirit is ready to move through us whenever we invite Him in.
