Saved by an Angel: My First Testimony
This is the first of three testimonies from my childhood and teen years when my life was miraculously saved by an angel.
It was the mid-1960s, and I was just a little girl. My stepfather decided it was time for me to learn how to ride a bicycle without training wheels. He removed them, set me on the seat, and with a sudden force, shoved the bicycle down our driveway. The problem was that our driveway led directly to a busy street filled with fast-moving traffic.
As the bike picked up speed, fear completely paralyzed me. My tiny hands were frozen on the handlebars, my legs stiff. I knew I couldn’t stop myself. I’ll never forget the terror and the absolute certainty that I was about to ride straight into oncoming cars.
Just as the front wheel reached the edge of the driveway, at the very last possible second, something supernatural happened. I felt two unseen hands rest gently over mine and turn the handlebars. Instead of plunging into the street, the bicycle made a wide U-turn, carrying me safely back down the driveway. I was alive—saved from what would almost certainly have been a fatal accident.
Looking back, I realize how miraculous this moment truly was. My mother and stepfather were non-practicing Catholics, perhaps even atheists. They never spoke to me about God, nor did they take me to church. I had gone through the childhood Catholic rituals, but I had no foundation, no real understanding of faith. I loved Jesus in a childlike way, but I didn’t know Him deeply.
I often wonder if anyone had been praying for me. Perhaps my grandmother, who faithfully prayed the rosary, or maybe a nun somewhere had lifted up a prayer for a little girl they had never met. What I do know is this: God’s hand was on me that day, and an angel intervened to save my life.
